Pititinga O Banana

Why Pititinga o Banana you ask? Let me explain. Over a year ago my kind and endearing husband braved my insanity and helped me take a great group of friends through Salvador, Bahia, Brazil during our summer vacation (yes, most of us work in education).

During our trip we endured it all - tidal waves, drunken stoopers enhanced by cachaca, sun burns (just me really), long car rides, the fun and irony that comes with group travel, group decisions and group dynamics, the joy of Baby Lua and her calmness and smiles as some of us neared death in a small speed boat across the Atlantic ocean. You name it....we experienced some memorable moments in Bahia.

After more then a years wait - my husband (Sabia') and I have figured out a way to get back! And this time in December! Prime summer solstice for those along the equatorial line! So we are packing up, right now as I type and getting ready for a plane ride first thing tomorrow! Let me tell you we have 4 bags a 70 pounds and when I tell you we are bringing everything but the sink...its literal!

So back to Pititinga o Banana --

Here is a photo of a delicious little beach side treat called Pititinga - its delectible little baby fried fish of some sort. You order it by the basket at your local baraca and of course wash it down with some cold Skol beer! (See photo)

Next you have a banana - or in Portuguese "O Banana." Pretty to the point - lovely bananas you can get here or there in Brazil. Helps relieve cramps or give you the needed sugar in those moody moments of hunger.

And then you have the SUNGA. What many people tend to forget about Brazil is the sunga; not the women in feathers for carnival, the samba, or the capoeira but the SUNGA. The better-then-European speedo, the sunga! Another reason why I love my husband...he looks awesome in his sunga. (Again, see photos)

After all this traveling with friends and my many mood swings - a friend Brett and our beloved Sabia began to make fun of me using the melody of a popular song. It went something like "Ela esta toda chatiada...traaaa, traaa!" Simple, look she is so annoyed, traaaa, traaa! Yeah not as funny to me. So the girls (Tracee, Erin, Sarah, Kyla and Nisha) developed our own lyrics - "Que tem en essa sunga....Pititinga o Banana?" What do you have in that sunga - Pititinga or Banana?
Yes, when your bad, your bad. And there you have it. Enjoy PititingaoBanana.blogspot.com.

Sabia and I will do our best to document our month away and all of our adventures.

Happy Holidays and 2009 people! I'm almost on the beach.....
